Goals for 2009

Not really sure about this one. I feel as though, I've been underachieving for a few years now, both in poker and elsewhere. I'd like to set my sights pretty high, but I'm not really sure where I want to end up.

Home life is fairly easy to set goals for, becasue they're the ones I alwyas achieve. I just want to keep enjoying myself. Specific aims outside of work include getting involved in music again, whether that be playing, singing or just going to more concerts, gigs or club nights. I'm still keen to run a marathon, and in any case I need to get off my arse and get fit and healthy again.

As far as work is concerned, I'm not sure what goals I want to set myself; I'm just going to try and keep enjoying it. There's a fast track scheme that I'm applying for in April which will be pretty tough, so I gruess that's the priority.

So, what about poker goals for 2009. I feel as though I've been massively underachieving in poker for the last few years, but at the same time I can't expect the results without putting the work in and equally I might have to accept that I'm only ever going to be a reasonably good recreational player.

That being said, I'm hoping to put a lot into poker this year and really hope to see some results.

At the moment I'm very happy playing $1/2 NL Holdem as my bread and butter game. I've got a healthy roll for it and a decent ammount can be made there. At the same time, I'm never going to get rich playing $1/2 and I'm never going to get to play some of the bigger live events.

My plan is, therefore, to gind at $1/2 for the first couple of months. I'm going to try to put in a heap of hours and hope to have the option to move to $2/4 by March.

I'm setting my targetted profit for the year at £20,000. I've never achieved my target and this is twice what I made last year, but it's time I pulled my finger out of my arse and actually started winning some decent money.

Aside from cash games, I'd like to play a few more bigger tournaments, both online and live. I've has a bit of sucess with some of the smaller Step STT on Stars, so I might see if I can parlay some of those into higher buyins. Once I've got a heap of Step 4 tickets, I can then either play the Sunday Million or try to qualify for EPT or WSOP seats. The £1000 event at DTD in December, which I played in used the same structure as the WSOP main event. It was a great structure and having heard how bad most of the players are in the WSOP, I'm now really keen to try and qualify.

We'll see what the year brings.

Happy 2009

Let's hope this year is at least this good....
