From the Sublime to the Ridiculous

...or maybe the other way round.

Within the space of 10 hours I had gone from watching the final table of the WSOPE PLO event to starting a new job. From the surreality of seeing first hand the mighty bling of Scotty Nguyen and hearing the constant jabber of Tony G's voice to the harsh reality of early morning nerves before embarking on a major life changing career path. From the grubby unshaven poker masses to the suited and fresh faced new co-employees; the comparisons were endless.

As much as to bump into some big name players, I had headed off last night with Mrs. Pink in tow in the direction of Leicester Square's Empire Casino in an attempt to run into Pauly and Change100, who are covering the WSOPE for PokerNews.

Pauly, I'm sure, needs little introduction to most of you. He's a familiar face on the poker scene covering major tournaments around the world and always providing first class writing on both his Tao of Poker and Tao of Pauly blog. I'd been reading Pauly's blog right from way back in the infancy of my poker career and his has always been one of the first I head to when I check my RSS feeds.

I was close to meeting up with him a couple of years ago when I was over on the East coast of The States, but having missed out on that I was eager to catch him while he was in town.

I'm also a big fan of Change100's blog, although I read it less while it was hosted on PokerWorks (I've no idea why). I'm glad she's back under her own steam again.

When Mrs. Pink and I arrived at the Empire last night, Pauly's was one of the first faces I spotted (after being collared by some ivy-leaguer doing research for her PhD on professional gamblers). It was great to meet him and he's just as overflowingly friendly as I'd been lead to believe from others' descriptions. Unfortunately for us, Change100 was having a well deserved break after covering the HORSE final table the previous night, but with any luck I'll have the opportunity to meet her later in the week, as I'm sure to head back to the Empire at least once to scope out the action.

As much as I'd like to I'm not going to be writing all that much at all about life in the new job. I'm learning from the experiences of others that writing about one's job is often a recipe for disaster and reluctantly these pages will have to contain what little of outside interest I can muster from poker goings on and any other shenanigans.

Till next time, then.
